There are cracks in the wood - Is this safe?Updated 6 days ago

When inspecting your swing frame, you may notice surface cracks or splits forming along the timber. Please be assured that this is a completely normal characteristic of natural wood and is not necessarily a sign of damage or a fault.

Timber naturally expands and contracts as it responds to changes in temperature and humidity. Splits are therefore more likely to appear during periods of dry weather and may reduce or close during wetter conditions. Once established, these natural splits will generally stabilise as the timber settles.

Our round pole frames are made from heartwood, which is the dense, central part of the tree. Heartwood is generally stronger, more durable and more resistant to decay than the outer sapwood, making it particularly well suited to structural timber products.

As part of our safety testing, swing frames are periodically load tested to 600kg, which is three times the load requirement of the EN71-8 Safety Standard.

To help maintain the timber and preserve its strength and durability, it is important to keep up with the recommended wood treatment and maintenance. Please refer to the “Wood Weathering” section of your manual for guidance.
